Organic Law 1/2004, Article 1, on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender-Based Violence: “(…) violence which, as a manifestation of discrimination, the situation of inequality, and power relations of men over women, is perpetrated against the latter by those who are or have been their spouses, or by those who are or have been linked to them by similar affective relationships, even without cohabitation.

This Law establishes comprehensive protection measures aimed at preventing, penalizing, and eradicating this violence and providing assistance to women, their minor children, and minors under their guardianship or custody who are victims of this violence. (…) any act of physical and psychological violence, including sexual assault, threats, coercion, or arbitrary deprivation of liberty. (…) it also encompasses violence perpetrated against the minor relatives or close associates of women with the aim of causing them harm or injury (…) Convinced of the need to contribute, across all spheres, to facilitating the right to protection and comprehensive social assistance for women who are victims of gender-based violence,
